Architecture, lifestyle, and design insights exploring the rise of modern cabin living in the Philippines. MY STORY Welcome to THE BALAI GAZETTE! If you love adventure, traveling, and the occasional “maybe I should live in a cabin somewhere” kind of thought, you’re in the right place. This is where I share stories from job sites, mountains, road trips, and the many places that made me fall in love with alternative homes and off-the-beaten-path living. Expect cabins, travels, a few lessons learned the hard way, and plenty of moments that make you wonder why building small in big places feels so right. If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring different lifestyles, living a little lighter, or just getting inspired to build something meaningful, come along for the ride. MY JOURNEY TO BUILDING THE PERFECT TINY HOME… SOMEHOW MADE MY LIFE BIGGER. Over the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of traveling to many places across the country working in my family's construction enterprise, working on a wide range of projects. In 2019, I was fortunate to be part of a large resort development where we collaborated on the construction of container villas, resort facilities and swimming pool projects. That experience opened my eyes to the possibilities of modular homes and prefab cabins, and it sparked a new passion in me. From there, I felt called to build something of my own—from the ground up—so we began developing our own systems and technology for crafting modular cabins suited to our local climate and lifestyle. As a curious adventurer, mountaineer, and frequent traveler, I’ve always been drawn to exploring the outdoors and learning from different environments. This background has shaped the way I design cabins for the Filipino setting—spaces that are practical, comfortable, and deeply connected to nature. I enjoy experimenting with scale and ergonomics, studying how each detail relates to the human experience. Whether designing the tiniest micro cabin or a larger premium retreat, I aim to create spaces that feel thoughtful, livable, and meaningful. I invite you to join me in discovering the best cabin experiences we can create together. Through this journey, we’ll explore outdoor living, small-space design, and the simple joys of gathering with family and friends in spaces built with intention. I also founded Building Alternatives and Innovations Corp. (BALAI PH), dedicated to developing alternative housing solutions and modern tropical spaces for Filipinos. Through The BALAI Gazette, I hope to share insights on cabin living, sustainable design, and creating homes that support a purposeful lifestyle. Along the way, we may find ourselves exploring trails, campsites, quiet towns, and even distant places—learning from different cultures of living and building. My hope is that, with more than 30 years of industry experience across the country, I can humbly share what I’ve learned and continue growing alongside a community that values innovation, craftsmanship, and meaningful living. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ MY STORY — I PROMISE FUTURE CHAPTERS MAY INCLUDE MORE CABINS AND QUESTIONABLE LIFE DECISIONS... :)
